Our Story

As business and life partners we work together to provide excellent authentic Spanish food and organised professional service

Carlos - " Growing up in Catalunya I had two loves, food and music. I arrived in England at 23 excited to see a new country and I have to admit life was a little tougher than I imagined. Realising my English was not up to scratch I started at the bottom as a potwasher. However the Bristol restaurant scene was kind to me and I soon worked my way up to restaurant manager. My love of food and cooking continued to grow as I experimented with different jobs whilst trying to make a living with my music, again a tricky path. Once I met Helen and she encouraged me to try to make a business from at least one of my passions, Las Tapitas was born. I had grown up with my Catalan grandmother, watching her cook and eating her delicious food. I set out to recreate her dishes and the fond memories I had of family meals. However I never forgot my rural Spanish roots and my love of paella. Being a performer, cooking big pan paellas is very natural to me. I love the spectacle, the amazement of people's faces and bringing my Spanish flair to all sorts of special occasions. Britain has been good to me, it has given me a business and a woman I love so I appreciate being able to give back my passion for Spanish flavours "

We thank El Colmado in Bristol for providing us with the best Spanish products to bring to you.

Helen - " Since studying Spanish as a young teenager I fell in love with the language and culture. Through my twenties, living in San Francisco I worked in a variety of restaurants and developed my love of latin cuisine and travelling in Central and South America I practised my Spanish language. On a sabbatical back to England I fell in love with Carlos and we began the adventure of launching Las Tapitas. We fuse our mutual love of Spanish food with Carlos's cooking skills and my organisational background."
